Embrace the energy of 1000 year old trees. The rainforests of World Heritage Barrington Tops National Park are of international significance, forming part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. If you are lucky enough, you can even experience some snow during the winter.
The park is a bushwalker's paradise, with an excellent walking track network that includes short and easy walks to more difficult hikes. Tracks include:
Sharps Creek trail (4.2km) - An invigorating walk to enliven the senses with excellent wildlife and birdwatching. Look out for the glow worms in the bank during summer nights, these light up the entire bank. This trail usually takes around 1.5 hours to complete. The trail is great for birding, hiking and running. It is unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring.
Gloucester River Walk (2.5km) - Offering scenic views, walking, swimming, picnicking, wildlife and birdwatching. Approximately 1-1.5hours, this track is an ideal walk to experience the rich nature wonderland. Crossing the river, look for the shy platypuses and long-necked tortoises before climbing uphill through paperbarks and towering Sydney blue gums. The cries of yellow-tailed black-cockatoos above the canopy often mingle with the ever-present sound of rushing rapids from below.
Antarctic Beech Forest walk (2.5km) - Step through a portal into the other-worldly charms of Antarctic Beech Forest, you'll wander the lush landscape of the prehistoric Gondwana era on this medium walk. Plenty of photo worthy opportunities, between the brightly coloured fungi and the towering tree ferns, to the pure mountain streams tumbling down mossy cascades. After a steep climb out, you'll be ready to enjoy a bite at Gloucester Tops or Gloucester falls picnic area.
Gloucester Falls trail (1.8km) - A 45-minute walk with wonderful views of the spectacular forests, mountains and waterfalls on this short and easy walk. Plenty of lookouts which offer scenic views.
GTRCP is conveniently located 30 minutes away from Gloucester Town Centre. Gloucester Town Centre offers a range of shops including Loveys IGA, Woolworths, BWS, Wineries, bakery, Thai, Cafes & more.
